June Discipleship Night - Theology of the Body: The Song of Songs with Joey Martineck

June Discipleship Night - Theology of the Body: The Song of Songs with Joey Martineck

June 13, 2023, 7:00pm - June 13, 2023, 8:45pm

Cathedral of Christ the King, Atlanta2699 Peachtree Rd NEAtlanta, GA30305-3689 Map

Have you ever felt your heart stirred by music? Isn’t it amazing how in movies or theater the right song can break open a story for us and give it new meaning? If we consider Christianity to be a drama, then it begs the question: what is the “song” that brings our faith to life?

Pope Benedict XVI proposes that the Song of Songs—the scripture with strikingly erotic imagery between two lovers—is the “essence of Biblical faith” (Deus Caritas Est, 10). Why is the Song of Songs the favorite of saints and mystics? How can we make sense of this? By diving into St. Pope John Paul II’s Theology of the Body, particularly the “hidden” audiences on which he wrote extensively on the Song of Songs.

Joey Martineck is the director of Respect Life Ministry for the Archdiocese of Atlanta and co-writer of GARDEN the Musical. He has a Masters in Theological Studies from Notre Dame Seminary in New Orleans and frequently speaks on St. John Paul II’s vision of the human person.

- We will provide pizza and beverages
- No sign up required! Walk-ins are welcome.
- If you're new to the Cathedral or 20/30s, please let us know! We'd love to get you plugged in to other events.
